Stayed On: 9/2007 - "Beautiful gem"

We had an amazing time during our short visit. We can't wait go back again next summer to spend more time. Christa and Shelby were such great hosts and lead very interesting lives. We felt like part of their family. The house is beautifully decorated with antiques and stain glass. The rooms are comfortable and uniquely decorated. If you want to spend time away from all the hustle and bustle of city life but still have comfort of an indoors stay in the middle of the woods and the shore of Lake Huron, this is great place to relax. Only two restaurants on the island about 2 miles walk from the Inn. You will see wild turkeys in the backyard, deer and if you lucky maybe a bald eagle. Make sure you know the Plaunt Transport ferry times so you can get to the island before the last ferry leaves Cheboygan. If you want to take your car to the island you must make reservations a few days ahead of time.

Stayed On: 7/2007 - "Precious Artistic Couple"

This couple make and awesome team. They are highly creative and have expressed their talents in their home. The house is 7800 square feet of resting pleasure. Loved our master bath. We had a beautiful stay. Note about the island: leave your sports car at home. This island is a natural beauty of lush woods, pristine waters, and dirt roads. Bring your 4 wheel drive and any dirt play toys, a canoe or kayak, sunscreen and watershoes. The beach is beautiful at the end of the island and worth the drive. Transport over with Plaunt Transport is prompt and efficient. The house is clean, lovely and filled with exquisite antiques. I will visit again.

Stayed On: 7/2007 - "Good company and great adventure"

We loved our stay at the Insel Haus. Our hosts were very sensitive to our needs and available to help us meet them. Christa and Shelby are uniquely creative people and the bed and breakfast reflects this beautifully. In an elegant and relaxing venue, one is able to enjoy the wilderness by day. We rode mountain bikes and went on two track roads with our jeep (the wildlife was plenty),went swimming, played our guitar, went rock collecting, and read. Some other guests took their kayaks to the inland lakes and said it was alot of fun. The meals at Hawks Landing Restaurant a couple miles away were all good. In the evening we enjoyed the company of our hosts and other guests. If you wanted it there was stimulating conversation and lots of laughter. If not there was plenty of comfortable furniture and a great deck and outdoor room where one could relax and read, write or just be. In summary Insel Haus is a great place to stay if you are looking for elegant comfort and wilderness adventure or just a place to relax and reflect in nature.

Stayed On: 7/2007 - "Excellent"

We enjoyed our stay very much - our hosts made us feel right at home and we enjoyed visiting with them and the other guests. We had a wonderful breakfast - the house is so interesting - a beautiful home and they made you feel like it was your home.

Stayed On: 6/2007 - "Delightful Time"

Christa and Shelby are wonderful hosts and can provide both entertaining conversation and quiet privacy, depending on your desires. The house is comfortable and fascinating. Bois Blanc Island is not for everybody, but if you are looking for a retreat to slow down and appreciate the quiet beauty of the wooded island, this is for you. Give yourself time to visit the secluded gems on the island and appreciate the hidden views. Bring the bug spray, mountain bikes, and camera, get a map/guide at Hawks, the only store on the island, and leave the worries of the mainland behind.

Dear Christa,

It has been an honor and a pleasure to be the first group of spinners and knitters to visit this wonderful island retreat. I look forward to many more retreats at Insel Haus. Thank you for sharing your corner of paradise with us.

Dear Shelby and Christa,

I wanted to take a few minutes to put on paper how much I appreciate your hosting our Chamber Round Table group. Your Bed and Breakfast Inn is beautifully restored and the setting overlooking Lake Huron is spectacular. All of our members commented on the nice feeling you get from that setting and it definitely contributed to the success of our "Team Building" seminar.

You were also a very congenial host and had all of the facilities that our stay required. I particularly like the helicopter landing sites at your place as you can land and take off over open areas down the beach.

Shelby and Christa,

There are not enough superlatives to describe our wonderful time at Insel Haus. We came to rest and rest we did. The warmth of our hosts and the beauty of our surroundings gave us a few days of paradise. We are so gratefull to have experienced this fabulous island resort.

Dear Shelby and Christa,

In words you described a place that could not possibly exist. A place to call home on an island forgotten by time. We came, we experienced, we know . . . it is here. Thank you for sharing with us. Insel Haus is more than inviting. It will swallow you up and may never let you go. Like all who visit for the first time, we will be back.

Bill and Barrie Lynn Wood

You have a true Up-North treasure, hosted by a gem of a couple. Bois Blanc is a wonderful secluded location in the perfect spot and you created a home to take full advantage of the surroundings. Thanks for allowing us to be a part of it. A great memory forever.

Shelby and Christa,

Thank you for the tour of your lovely home last Saturday. You have used your talents exceptionally well to create a beautiful, relaxing, and unique environment - and the carefully planned views from each room are wonderful. We feel fortunate that you have opened up your home to all of us as a bed & breakfast. What a special addition to our island.

Very truly yours,

Joan Watts Bruce

Hi Christa -

What a beautiful website!  The images are serene, gentle and irresistibly inviting.  It makes one want to experience all 4 seasons at Insel Haus.  Your Web Master has done a spectacular job putting it all together in a user-friendly website.  And your photographer has captured the nuances of all the moods one experiences while on the island.  The rooms and furnishings are a perfect blend of comfort and unusual elegance in the north woods. Everything looks warm and inviting.  And the views beyond the thresholds are the perfect compliment to what you've created indoors.
If I'm not at the edit in the morning its because I've headed to Insel Haus, and I may never be heard from again.....
